Coping with Friendship Loss: How to Heal and Move Forward

We often think about grief as something that happens only when someone close to us passes away. However, grief takes many forms. One of the strangest to navigate is the grief we experience over the loss of a friendship. This can happen through growing apart, a falling out, or sometimes we aren’t even sure why the friendship has ended.
Often, this uncertainty causes a great deal of discomfort and impacts other areas of our lives. Giving space to these feelings, exploring what the friendship meant to us, and processing that loss helps us learn about ourselves and develop boundaries for future friendships!

Why Friendship Loss Hurts So Much
Friends often represent significant stages of our lives—childhood, school, university, different workplaces, and often romantic relationships. Our friends support us through the highs and lows of life. When those same friendships are responsible for those ‘lows,’ it can be confusing and upsetting.
