Simon is a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology 2024 Candidate joining Nuway Counselling looking to complete the necessary hours to become a Registered Clinical Counsellor in BC. His area of interest is mainly in the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in anxiety, depression, and intergenerational trauma. With a background in Pharmacy, Simon would like to combine his knowledge of medication and counselling to provide the greatest benefit to all clients.
Simon’s own words:
I have been fortunate to call Vancouver home for the last 20 years of my life, knowing from an early age that I would one day work in healthcare. My experience as a pharmacist for 5 years has led to me realize that my passion and strengths lie in connecting with my clients, being able to talk and collaborate with them to improve their health outcomes. My interest in mental health specifically comes from my personal struggles as well as finding pharmaceuticals an insufficient tool on its own when trying to achieve long lasting mental resilience.
I am fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, and have a heavy interest in how cultural induced stresses affect personal and interpersonal relationships in immigration heavy cities such as Vancouver. I hope to use some of my personal awareness and experience to help anyone finding themselves in similar positions.
B.C. as a whole has given me some of the best experiences when it comes to hiking and skiing, so I aim to continue until my body does not let me. My travels to China, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, and the US have enriched my cultural perspectives and given me many cherished memories. I am also an avid enjoyer of science fiction, and find inspiration in stories where the best of humanity’s values prevail.
